Let’s talk about packaging

We spend A LOT of our time thinking about packaging. Almost 9 million tons of waste plastic make their way into seas and oceans every year and we are deeply committed to doing whatever we can to reduce that amount. We both try every day in our personal lives, not to create more single-use plastic trash. In an effort not to create new waste with our small business we’ve committed to a packaging policy, developed over the last year, that we feel comfortable saying is as close to zero waste as possible.

First and foremost we try to reuse as much as possible. Beads, as you know, are small and as it turns out, much of what we purchase in our own lives is also small and packaged into plastic containers. Gwyn has developed a network of small container suppliers through neighborhood groups on Facebook and IG. She walks, or drives a fairly regular route, picking up tiny containers. We clean them up, save them until we have enough, and use them to package our marvelous wares. We never want you to feel like you’ve received a box of trash, though. We work really hard to use containers that go along with our themes every month, and we do our best to wrap your beads like the gift we want them to be.

How can this possibly work for a business? It takes some time, but we believe it is worth it. We also prowl thrift shops and yard sales for possible packaging using the criteria that even if items haven’t been used, the thrift shop is the last stop before the landfill. Reducing the amount of plastic that finds its way to landfills is one of our primary goals.

If the containers we ship can be used to help you organize your beads once they arrive at your home then so much the better.

If you already have an organizational system that works for you, many of the containers we use can be recycled. If you find yourself with a surplus of tiny plastic bags, we gladly accept them back in the mail for reuse. We believe that the way we do business is important and we hope that you do too.
